Introduction to Obedience

New members will need to email us via the Contact Us page. After hearing back from us, you will be placed on a waiting list for the next available introduction to obedience class. To participate in these classes you must be a financial club member and your dog needs to be fully vaccinated and older than 4 months.

The Introduction to Obedience class run for four weeks where you will learn the basic skills to manage your dog. In this class you will learn the basics of dog training and theory of different types of training techniques. After completing this module, you will automatically advance into the Obedience Intermediate group.

The Intermediate Obedience group is designed to develop your handling skills with the intention of learning continuing to learn new exercises and improving your already learnt skills each week. You can train at your own pace until you have the necessary experience and knowledge to manage your dog in most situations. Emphasis is given to socialisation with other dogs and being handled in a public environment. The skills learnt in this group are the basic elements used in competition trialling. As part of the training, we will make the activities entertaining and educational to keep you and your dog interested.

Our club also offers Rally-O instruction. Rally-O is a newer event where the dog and handler have to work through a set course of directional changes and positions. If nothing else, Rally-O is a great exercise in comprehension and memory skills, something we all can benefit from.

Once you and your dog have trained hard and reached a competent level of teamwork, you can be invited by the Chef Obedience Instructor to join the Advanced Obedience Group. Dogs and Handlers in this group work on improving their existing skills with an instructor to obtain a competitive level of obedience aligned with the obedience trial standards.

Nobody fails in our dog training courses, as you are able to continue training within our classes until you and your dog can demonstrate your competence within the minimum requirements. The more you put into your training the more you get back. It is as simple as that.

Everyone on the ground, either training / instructing or looking,
